- My Practice
I earned my B.A. in Psychology from Rhode Island College located in Providence Rhode Island. After that I moved back home to Texas to attend graduate school at St. Edwards University (SEU) in Austin, Texas. I earned my M.A. in Counseling from SEU studying both individual & marital/family therapy. For the past decade (since August 2009) I have been a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (Texas license number 201435). Since 2013 I have been studying EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). I am a Approved Consultant in EMDR (since 2019) and a Certified Therapist in EMDR (since 2017). What is EMDR?
EMDR is an effective, evidence-based method for helping our brain digest or move past obstacles interfering with our functioning, relationships, or future goals. For example, if you experienced a stressful or disturbing event in the past, addressing that issue with EMDR will help your brain to digest the memory and associated material. Once the past material is digested/desensitized, clients find it much easier to stay fully in the present, and report they are free from feelings or beliefs about themselves previously associated with the past event(s).
A significant portion of my practice is spent working with couples around infidelity (emotional & physical) and men who struggle with problematic sexual behavior. I spend time assessing the nature of the struggle and then guide the client through a program of therapy that is proven by research to help in the recovery of healthy life interaction.
Before attending college I spent 10 years serving in the United States Air Force as a computer operations specialist. During that time I lived in Germany, Alaska & Saudi Arabia before returning home to Texas.
I offer the following assessments:
- Sexual Dependency Inventory-Revised (SDI-R 3.0)
- Hyper-sexual behavior screening
- Sexual Addiction Screening Test (SAST)
- Post Traumatic Stress Inventory (PTSI)
- Prepare/Enrich premarital inventory (P/E)
- FOCCUS premarital inventory
- Locke-Wallace Marital Adjustment Test
- Weiss-Cerretto Marital Status Inventory
- Waltz-Rushe-Gottman Emotional Abuse Questionnaire (EAQ)
I specialize in helping individuals, couples and families repair strained relationships, build good relational habits & maintaining positive change.
