About My Practice
Hello, my name is Robert (RL) Turner with Intuitus Group Counseling Clinic, PLLC. I sincerely appreciate that you have taken the time to consider giving me the opportunity to be a help to you or your loved ones. I currently offer counseling services for Individual Adults and Adolescents (15 and older).
Are you struggling with uncomfortable thoughts and feelings? Have you had Traumatic or Very Unpleasant experiences that are causing you difficulty in your personal life or in your relationships. Are you using coping strategies that are ineffective and costing you time, energy, money, health, vitality or relationships? You can learn to break free from struggles and past experiences and overcome ineffective behavior patterns that bind and prevent you from living a meaningful and enjoyable life. The goal of my practice is to help you become the best version of yourself. The areas that I am most interested in based on my experience and professional training are:
- Life Transitions/Situational Conflicts
- Men’s Issues
- My Approach
I approach psychotherapy from an integrative system of combining Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), some psychodynamic techniques and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. ACT is a powerful new psychotherapy based on cutting-edge research into how the human mind works. It has been clinically shown to be successful in treating a wide range of psychological problems. The name of this therapy model comes from one of its key themes: Learn how to accept those things that are out of your control, and commit to changing those things that can be changed to create a values driven meaningful life. This is a very active therapy – not a therapy model where we just talk about your problems. You will actively learn new skills to improve your quality of life. EMDR is a powerful psychotherapy approach that is specifically designed to desensitize and reprocess traumatic and very disturbing life experiences.
We have three basic aims in this therapy:
First, we will identify and target any past traumatic or very disturbing experiences using EMDR therapy so that those experiences no longer have a devastating effect or continue to be the underlying cause of difficulties.
The second aim is to help you create a rich, full and meaningful life. To do that, we’ll need to spend some time talking about what you really want out of life; what’s important and meaningful to you, deep in your heart. We call this ‘clarifying your values. Using that information as a guide, we’ll look at how you can set goals and take action to change your life for the better – and in the process develop a sense of meaning, purpose, and vitality.
The third aim is to teach you a set of skills that will allow you to handle painful thoughts and feelings far more effectively, in such a way that they have much less impact and influence over you. We call these skills ‘mindfulness skills.’ Mindfulness is a mental state of awareness, openness, and focus. In this state, painful thoughts and feelings have much less impact on us; we can effectively handle even the most difficult experiences, and rise beyond our fears to change our attitude in life-enhancing ways.
I offer private counseling to clients on a weekly, bi-weekly basis. In general, therapy is most effective and goals are met most quickly when we meet regularly. Appointments are scheduled Monday thru Thursday.
Payment is due for each session at the time services are rendered; I accept cash, check, and credit cards. My fees are $125 per session for individuals and $140 per session for couples. Session are 60 minutes which includes 5 minutes at the end for note taking. 90 minutes sessions are $190.
Contact me at 512-470-8910 or for a consultation. If we are not a good fit for each other I am happy to help you find a counselor that is a good fit.
