Life often doesn’t go as we expect. This can be painful, especially when frustration and grief begin to overwhelm us or lead us to question our identity and purpose. It takes courage to acknowledge this within ourselves, and even more courage to share it with another person. Looking for a counselor is an important first step. No matter what stage of life you’re in, taking this initiative is a sign of strength.
I am a trained EMDR therapist, dedicated to continued study of its application in a variety of clinical situations so that I can best serve those who seek this specific treatment. In many cases, EMDR can be helpful when a traumatic experience is unresolved or undigested in the brain and body. When this happens, the memories or material may feel recent, loud and exhausting. EMDR allows these things to find resolution naturally and in a way that draws from someone's life experiences and adaptive perspective. In many ways, EMDR is an expression of the brain's propensity to heal itself through insight. If you're interested in EMDR therapy, we can explore how it may be applicable within the framework of your life experience and therapy goals.
I am also trained in Ego State therapy, which directly addresses persistent feelings of inner conflict or confusion. It can be helpful when working with any unwanted or intrusive experiences of physical or mental disconnect. Similar to EMDR, Ego State therapy draws from and expands upon the individual's lived experience. It supports the brain's natural processes while still challenging the individual and leading to growth.
In my clinical practice, I work with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, post-traumatic and dissociative responses, interpersonal or relational difficulties, and grief and loss. Midlife transitions, early childhood trauma, abuse, and neglect are particular areas of focus within my practice. I also have experience working with sexual addiction and habitual overeating. It is an honor to work with each client, recognizing that therapy requires trust and can sometimes feel confusing or messy. Whether you have reached a point of crisis or simply desire to become a more self-aware and integrated person, I am available via phone, email, or my secure portal if you feel we might be a good fit.
