What does EMDR entail?

 The standard protocol involves:

  1. History taking and assessment to determine whether EMDR is appropriate at this time and for the presenting problem;
  2. Preparation to ensure readiness and safety for reprocessing;
  3. Identifying and reprocessing past experiences that set the foundation for the problem;
  4. Processing present situations that still elicit disturbance; and
  5. Incorporating adaptive and new experiences into memory networks to overcome skill or developmental deficits in present and future situations.

Interested in intensive EMDR therapy?

Some persons and situations may benefit from what is referred to “intensive” EMDR therapy, where sessions are longer in length (2-3 hours) and/or take place on consecutive days.

EMDR intensive FAQs:

What are the prerequisites for intensive therapy?  At least 2 of the following:

  1. Current treatment with a psychotherapist and authorization to speak to them.
  2. Completion of a phone screening (20-30 min) with the clinician who may facilitate the intensive therapy.
  3. Completion of an initial intake assessment (2-3 hours) in which assessment for appropriateness for EMDR, initial preparation, and (potentially) an initial treatment plan may be established.

What is the format for intensives? The format will be customized to the needs and schedules of the clinician and client(s) involved. Most common formats are:

  • Meeting for extended sessions (2-3 hours) 1-2x/month
  • Meeting for regular (60-90 minutes) or extended  sessions (2-3 hours) for consecutive/most days in a 1-2 week period.

What are the fees for intensive therapy? Intensive therapy is billed according to the clinician’s hourly rate. Insurance usually does not cover intensive therapy, but may reimburse for up to 1 hour per day.

Contact the clinician of your choice to inquire about their availability or for further information.

EMDR Therapy Training

Become an EMDR Trained Therapist

 EMDR therapy is a sought-after and evidence-based treatment model for PTSD and many related conditions. New and experienced mental health clinicians will learn the core concepts and procedures of EMDR therapy, observe them demonstrated, and practice implementing them with fellow trainees.

After successful completion the 50+ hour training, including two 3-day training modules and the required group consultation, clinicians will be able to refer to themselves as ‘EMDR Trained.’ Each training cohort will have a maximum of 12 in-person and  virtual participants.This training meets and exceeds the curriculum standards set forth by the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA).

We take great care to ensure that the size of the group and training schedule allow for ample discussion so that you are able to integrate EMDR therapy into your practice.

Your registration for the Intuitus Group EMDR therapy training includes:

  • Two 3-day modules of in-person/virtual training, for a total of more than 20 hours of instructional learning about EMDR therapy, and 20 hours of supervised practice  applying all phases of the basic protocols and procedures of EMDR therapy.
  • 10 hours  of group consultation support clinicians in developing their skills while applying and integrating EMDR therapy into treatment with their clients. These groups meet via Zoom and are pre-scheduled for each training cohort.
  • An exclusive and intentionally-designed training manual including worksheets and forms suitable for use in clinical settings, and a compilation of  resources found to be helpful to new and experienced EMDR therapists.
