Robert (RL) Turner

About My Practice

Hello, my name is Robert (RL) Turner, and I sincerely appreciate that  you have taken the time to consider giving me the opportunity to be a  help to you or your loved ones. I offer individual counseling for adults  18 years and older. I primarily do in person counseling and telehealth  counseling as needed with existing clients only.

The  focus of my practice is Trauma and Trauma related struggles. Are you  struggling with uncomfortable thoughts, feelings, anxiety, depression,  flashbacks, avoidant behaviors or feeling disconnected? Do you have a  history of childhood trauma or abuse? Have you had a recent traumatic  experience? Are you using coping strategies that are ineffective? Are  you struggling to maintain good relationships?

The following are the  areas in which I have the most experience:

PTSD - a mental  health condition that can develop after a person experiences or  witnesses a traumatic event involving actual or threatened death,  serious injury, or sexual violence.

Complex PTSD - a condition  that results from prolonged or repeated trauma—especially in situations  where the person feels trapped or powerless, such as chronic abuse,  captivity, domestic violence, or childhood neglect. It includes the core  symptoms of PTSD (intrusive memories, avoidance, negative mood, and  hyperarousal), but also adds additional features that reflect the  long-term impact of sustained trauma:

  1. Emotional regulation difficulties – intense or unstable emotions, chronic sadness, or anger that feels hard to control.
  2. Negative self-concept – deep feelings of shame, guilt, or worthlessness; a persistent sense of failure or being “damaged.”
  3. Interpersonal problems – difficulty trusting others, forming close  relationships, or feeling connected; patterns of isolation or conflict.

Dissociative  Disorders - a group of mental health conditions that involve a  disconnection or disruption in a person’s consciousness, memory,  identity, emotion, perception, or sense of self.

Anxiety - a  group of mental health conditions characterized by excessive fear,  worry, or nervousness that is persistent and interferes with daily life.  ( Generalized Anxiety, Panic, Social Anxiety, Phobias)

Depression - characterized by persistent sadness, loss of interest or pleasure,  and a range of emotional, cognitive, and physical symptoms that  significantly impair daily functioning.

Compulsive Sexual  Behaviors - characterized by a persistent pattern of intense, repetitive  sexual impulses or behaviors that the individual feels unable to  control, even when these behaviors cause significant distress or harm.

Life  Transitions - significant periods of change or adjustment that occur  when a person moves from one stage or situation in life to another. They  can be planned or unplanned, positive or challenging, but they all  require a person to adapt to new circumstances, roles, or identities.
